Biography
Steven Ciezki grew up in Calumet City, IL, the southern suburbs of Chicago. In 1995, he started drawing the world around him in graphite, charcoal, pastel, and colored pencil. Adobe Photoshop and a MousePen introduced him to the digital art world in 2005. In 2012, he received his BFA in glass and drawing from Illinois State University where he developed a deeper understanding of paint and color. Currently, his main focus is to utilize the pattern and color opportunities of hand blown glass as a representational component in a painting.
Steven's digital illustration application of choice is Procreate on an I-Pad Pro with an Apple Pen. It fulfills an enormous amount of artist limitations and inspires other bodies of work. This available digital platform led to the publication of his book in 2017 called "Life on the Rails: Intermediate Glassblowing Techniques". Steven continues to enjoy the world around him in many different art forms.

Artist Statement
Light enables sight. The world is made up of units of color shapes that are organized in such a way to produce visual information. A trained eye has the ability to arrange color shapes on a canvas to create a representational image. My favorite process is to start with a middle value canvas and add the light and shadows. I think of it as sculpting an image out of the canvas.
Names of objects and memories limit further inspection into the beauties around us. To draw and represent means to see with new eyes. I push past what I think I know I see and replace it with what actually exists. I absolve my mind from any prior memory to obtain a heightened sense of reality through color shapes.
